Job Description

We are looking for a skilled and safety-focused Equipment Operator with expertise in trenchless technology and utility excavation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating a range of heavy equipment—such as excavators, backhoes, vacuum trucks, and horizontal directional drilling (HDD) rigs—while ensuring the protection of underground utilities. This role requires strong technical knowledge, precision in execution, and a commitment to industry safety standards.

Note: This role may require travel to various job sites. When travel is necessary, lodging and per diem will be provided by the company.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate trenchless equipment including HDD rigs, pipe bursting tools, and auger boring machines.
Safely maneuver heavy machinery (excavators, skid steers, backhoes, etc.) to expose and navigate around existing utilities.
Read and interpret utility locates, blueprints, and site plans to plan excavation strategies.
Collaborate with ground crews and utility locators to identify and mitigate underground hazards.
Utilize soft-digging techniques (e.g., vacuum excavation) to uncover utilities when needed.
Conduct daily equipment inspections, perform routine maintenance, and report mechanical issues promptly.
Adhere to OSHA regulations and industry best practices for safe utility excavation.
Maintain accurate documentation of site conditions, materials used, and completed tasks.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and utility personnel to ensure smooth project execution.
Qualifications:

Job Requirements

Required:
2–5 years of experience in equipment operation, specializing in trenchless methods and utility excavation.
Demonstrated knowledge of trenchless installation techniques (HDD, pipe bursting, etc.).
Experience working safely around live utilities (gas, water, sewer, electric, fiber optic, etc.).
Strong safety record with a thorough understanding of utility damage prevention procedures.
Ability to adapt to various environmental and site conditions.

Preferred:
OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
Training in confined space entry and trench safety.
Familiarity with electronic utility locators and GIS mapping systems.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
Capable of standing, walking, bending, and operating heavy machinery for extended durations.
Comfortable working in close proximity to utilities and within excavated areas.
